Sophrology
What is Sophrology?
Sophrology is a mind and body relaxation technique that brings together breathing exercises, gentle movement and visualisation to help you reach a calm mind in a relaxed body. It sits at the crossroads of Western relaxation methods and Eastern practices such as yoga and meditation.

1960 — Origins
Where it comes from
Sophrology was developed in 1960 by Spanish neuropsychiatrist Professor Alfonso Caycedo, originally to support patients through recovery without relying on medication. Today it's used far more widely, as an accessible, practical technique for managing everyday stress and building resilience.
In practice
How a session works
I guide you through simple breathing exercises, gentle movement and visualisation — usually seated or standing, sometimes lying down. There's no special equipment or experience needed; the techniques are easy to learn and can be practised alone once you know them.
Benefits
What Sophrology can help with
Everyday stress and anxiety
Sleep difficulties
Preparing for exams, interviews and big events
Building confidence and self-belief
Managing the impact of work pressure on health
Living alongside long-term health conditions
Sophrology is a complementary technique and does not replace medical care or treatment.

Kind words
What clients say
I had the pleasure of working with Sarah over five one-hour sessions, and the experience was genuinely transformative. Each week she guided me through sophrology practices combining breathing techniques, guided visualisation of places that made me happy, deep relaxation, and progressive muscle tension and release.
My favourite session was when she guided me back to my childhood. I could see again the happy moments when I went camping with my family. It was very emotional and I felt so calm and happy after.
Sarah has a calm, warm presence that made it easy to let go and fully engage with each exercise. She explained everything clearly and adapted the sessions to what I needed.
The results were real: I’m sleeping noticeably better, and I now have a simple technique I can rely on whenever I wake up in the middle of the night.
I’d really recommend Sarah to anyone looking to manage stress, improve their sleep, or simply find more calm in their daily life.
Ana Carolina CammaranoFive one-to-one Sophrology sessions
Sarah has a naturally calming presence. Her soft, gentle manner puts you at ease straight away, and she guides sessions with real warmth and care. After just one session, I felt noticeably lighter and slept better that night. I’d happily recommend her sophrology sessions to anyone looking to unwind, manage stress, or simply take some time for themselves.

I really enjoyed attending Sarah’s sophrology programme, she was always receptive to the needs of the attendees, flexible and willing to make amendments to future sessions based on our experiences.
